Bridge Plugs & Retrieving Tools

Bridge plugs, composed of slips, mandrel and a sealing element are downhole tools used to isolate upper and lower portions of the wellbore. Bridge plugs can be deployed by jointed pipe, coiled tubing or wireline setting tools and installation may be permanent or temporary. Made of cast iron, composite steel or alloy, most bridge plugs are drillable or can be milled. Some plug manufactures also offer retrievable bridge plugs. Unlike a packer, which is used to isolate and contain produced fluids and pressure within a tubing string (acting as a barrier element), a bridge plug isolation is usually required during well maintenance.
